Château de Sceaux… Enchanted in snow…

I’ve seen castles in my life… I’ve been to different corners of Europe and explored many of them, all seemingly as magnificent as their respective eras. But nothing hits me like Château de Sceaux does. Nothing spectacular compared to Versailles, Fontainebleau, or even Spanish castles, and yet it’s my go-to place every time I feel the need to recharge my social battery.
It was in January 2024… That month, the snow just couldn’t stop, covering Paris and its suburbs with a thick white coat, adding a dash of magic to the already charming landscape.
The cold didn’t stop me from capturing the immaculate snow covering the majestic castle and its gardens. I experimented with different angles to add depth and a unique perspective to the composition, incorporating foreground elements like leading paths to guide the viewer’s eyes toward the Château and add layers to the image. Close-ups in the garden complement this approach. The frost on the roof gave the impression that the photographs were in black and white, though they were in color.
My white balance was on point to avoid showing the snow as blue or yellow. I also meticulously focused on avoiding overexposure, aiming to preserve the vaporous atmosphere that snow can provide, while preventing unnecessary highlights and pure whites.
